It takes quite some time to empty an intermediate bulk container (IBC) and the risk of leaks or bad spills exists while the polyethylene containers are attached to the equipment. Should the hose fail or be pulled off the IBC, the entire polyethylene container could drain if unattended. More common is a simple leak, which tends to damage floors and frustrate plant maintenance personnel. All have the potential to be costly and very dangerous.
Rectangular Secondary Containment Polyethylene containers (Basins) are moulded of virgin high-density cross link or medium density FDA-compliant linear polyethylene. They have a tapered design for nesting during shipping. These meet or exceed EPA requirements for containment of dangerous chemicals.
Cylindrical Horizontal Polyethylene containers, materials and accessories are the same as vertical and conical bottom tanks with moulded - in ribs for skid mounting and tie-down banding. Steel cradles are required for all models.
Large polyethylene containers have become a popular safeguard. Polyethylene is the same type of plastic used for the inner receptacle (the bottle portion) of composite IBCs. It is durable, UV stabilized against sunlight for outdoor use, and resistant against most aggressive chemicals.
